They combine the most common instruments like drums, acoustic guitar and nyckelharpa with Portuguese traditional instruments like cavaquinho, braguesa, adufe and bagpipes and custom ones like the hybrid portuguese bouzouki, a mix between the portuguese guitar and the irish bouzouki with two extra bass strings and an electric circuit than can go from the acoustic sounds to the crazy distortions and fx. But what makes Dazkarieh's sound unique is not only the instruments they use but they way they use them. They give them an analog processing and treatment creating rich and complex textures that puts Dazkarieh close to an alternative rock band. And because they mix all that electricity with the instruments acoustic sound and with Joana’s smooth but powerful voice they are also folk but in a experimental way. Dazkarieh describe themselves as Alternative Rock, Experimental Folk band. In 2012 Dazkarieh are back with "Eterno Retorno” (Eternal Return) their sixth studio album. Since 2006 that the band have been doing their own compositions side by side with with old songs from the Portuguese oral tradition. In this "Eterno Retorno” they felt that this influence has become an integral part of Dazkarieh's identity like a musical tattoo painted on their face so they move on to create an album only with their own compositions. "Eterno Retorno” reflects on the reality as cycles that repeat and alternate in a certain reminiscence of the concept of the Eternal Return (also known as "eternal recurrence") developed by Nietzsche. Lyric wise, besides the refection on the reality as cycles, themes like the inner search, life, love and the passage of time have a very strong presence on this record. Musically, the band explore different environments and atmospheres that goes from a very strong rock flavored like “(ir)Real” or “Contos de Cordel” to a more mystical poetry like “Ladainha do Lago” to the total acoustic an beautiful lullaby “Embalo ao nascer do Sol”. Joana's voice is explored to the most, expressing all kinds of deep emotions and feelings and sometimes with several layers of voices in the arrangements. Even Joana's voice is not spared to electronic processing – sometimes pure, sometimes distorted and dirt. All music is sign by Vasco Ribeiro Casais and lyrics by Joana Negrão. In their sixth album and thirteen years after, "Eterno Retorno" reflects a more mature band that is not afraid to show and tell the world that they are a very special, unique and exclusive side of Portuguese music and that there is more to Portuguese music than Fado.
